It is a large stone structure that resembles a temple, with four arches supporting a central tower. The monument is 100 feet in height and was built over a period of three years from 1782 to 1785. It is said to have been constructed by 360 workers, who were paid in food and drink.
The design of the Fyrish Monument was inspired by the Gate of Negapatam, a famous landmark in India. The monument was built in the shape of the letter “F” to represent the name of Sir Hector Munro’s former regiment. The central tower of the monument has a spiral staircase leading to the top, where visitors can enjoy breathtaking views of the surrounding countryside.
